Tweaking

I enjoyed a successful weekend at the Festival of Arts & Crafts here in Jersey last week. It is an annual event with stallholders from across the UK. I was very grateful to Jersey Enterprise for the opportunity to share a space with five other budding businesses, it was good fun, and fairly lucrative too.
The site is undergoing some work, on the back of some advise from a local web company, again curtesy of Jersey Enterprise. So hopefully it will be a bit 'cleaner' and easier to navigate. And once I have got to grips with those pesky H1 and Alt tags I will be zooming up those google charts!

No Speedos required
04/08/09
The Landscape photographer Chris Shepherd has been good enough to blog me as his photographer of the month for August. Please check out his stunning images taken across the UK. As 'Mr August' I was fully prepared to have to pose in my Speedos, sporting a particularly attractive telephoto lens of my choice. Mercifully one of my landscapes features on the blog, still, I have hit the gym big time and hope to make Mr September looking suitably trim and dashing!
Take a View Competition
27/07/09
I have had one of my images shortlisted for the national Take A View - Landscape Photographer of The Year 2009 competition. One of my shots from Mull of the wrecked fishing boats at Salen Bay. I have no idea how many images are shortlisted from the initial entries, but it put a skip in my step none-the-less.
Rain, Coffee & Sunsets
20/07/09
I wanted to do some multiple exposure blending so headed north to Crabbe to a spot that afforded some fine views of the islands rugged coast towards Plemont headland and the other islands beyond. The early evening light was looking promising as I set out on the coast path to my point. The light around Sark was stunning but before the second leg of the tripod was extended a veil of rain brought the scene to a close. Seconds later the clouds made a nifty pincer movement and the lights went out around me, shelter of sorts was gained by nestling under the overhanging ferns along the paths bank. Whilst I was getting a wash Sark intermitently appeared & dissapeared in a grey vignette, the evenings light dancing off the sea and refracting and enlivening the wet humid air. Nothing to do but drink my coffee and admire the performance. After ten minutes the rain relented and steaming slightly heavier than my last coffee I squidged to the granite outcrop and set up.
The resulting shot is in the New Images gallery. I made 3 exposures, overexposing by 2 stops & underexposing by 2 in order to capture the highlight and shadow details across the scene and then blending them with Photoshops HDR merge tool.

An Early start!

Every year Jersey has a round island walk, the Itex Walk, a blister inducing 48.1 mile round trip. My contribution was to drop Sarah off at the starting point, my punishment for not participating was to get her there for 2.30am. I don't 'do' early mornings, and any attempt to get back to sleep once home was fruitless. I eventually got up and headed out with the gear. I went to a small bay called Anne Port. Initially the light was poor and the scene fairly unpromising, but then someone switched the lights on and the subtle hues in the clouds, the water and the pebbles came through. It was a scene to soothe the soul!
Shortly afterwards Sarah and a few hundred more unreasonably cheerful yompers passed on the road behind, my dear wife expressing amazement that I couldn't just have gone back to sleep!

Exhibitions
16/04/09
I was chuffed with the photographs in the exhibition, which is still on until the 20th April. I have sold a couple of prints and have a commission from a local law firm for some images.
I am currently working on 25-30 prints for the Bedford/Jersey Arts Festival 2009. The exhibition is at Bronham Water Mill, Bedford from 17th May to 5th July.

Photoshop Prisoner

The past few weeks have been spent largely in front of the screen as opposed to getting out there! I have been working on putting a 'real' portfolio together and processing a backlog of images that have lain unloved in their virtual files for too long.
I have also been given the chance to show some photographs at the Spring Fever exhibition at the Harbour Gallery in St Aubins, Jersey. It is a mixed medium exhibition and runs from March 31st to April 20th. Exciting stuff. So if you do get the chance please take a look.

New Photos added

I spent some of Valentines day watching Herring Gulls readying their roosts on the north coast. I know they are much maligned, but they still have a beauty and resillience all of their own. A couple of photographs from the afternoon are in the New Images Gallery.

I will be able to update the site in the next few days having at last sorted out how to add pricing structures to the images and galleries. The system will enable customers to place images in their shopping baskets and then order through the secure PayPal system. Happy shopping, I hope :)

Instead of placing new images directly into their relevant galleries I will plonk them here for a few weeks before assigning them to their correct resting place.
