costa rica

Landscape & Nature Photography by Kevin Brace

When rain stops play! Yes, I know that a rain forest is generally a pretty wet environment, that it has a propensity to precipitate on an alarming and regular basis, hence the term ‘rainforest’. But I was not prepared for the difficulties that this climatic trait had on my ability to do some photography. Even when it was not raining the humidity was hot & high and in the inevitable heat that followed a downpour everything steamed and smouldered profusely, the ground, the air the foliage, me. Not a good environment for glass, particularly when it is a lens!

Even if I did not come away with the sort of shots I had originally anticipated, Costa Rica was none-the-less a good experience and some useful lessons were learnt. I would like to spend more time in the tropical equivalent of Fanghorn Forest that is the Cloud forest reserve at Santa Elena, an environment that is beautiful, moving, swaying so obviously living that you really feel that you have become part of it when you are in there. It sucks you in, soaks you and seduces you with its primeval charm.
