I have traversed the West Coast on many occasions, trod upon sodden peat carpets from the tip of Kintyre to the Torridon tops, trapped flies in my open mouth whilst trekking through Glen Etive on an autumn morning and shivered and shook on the saddle of Slioch following a freezing cloudburst. I have slipped and slithered on scree and then visibility reduced struggled to see; been bitten to bits and confused about the difference between a Beinn and a Ben a Cormorant and a Shag or why we need a cirque, corrie, cwm and combe. But finer holidays…I have rarely had.
